Pirates of the Caribbean was a very odd film for me. It never quite came to life for me, and yet I found myself loving it. I never quite believed in any of it, and couldn't suspend my disbelief, not even once--but I was so captivated by the sheer filmmaking of it--the wonderful art direction, the deft stunts, the sweet effects, the impossibly good-looking cast--that I found myself enjoying it immensely when I shouldn't have.
